Apply Now For Canadian Radio Star

Songwriters across Canada are invited to enter the Canadian Radio Star contest, an event that will be held at the Canadian Music Week (CMW) 2006 from March 1-4, at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto.

Be discovered by radio executives, recording industry executives, professional songwriters and new fans at Canada’s largest annual songwriting event. Submissions are judged on creativity, originality, composition, lyrics, melody and radio airplay potential.

“Arguably the most crucial of all players in the music industry, songwriters don’t always get their fare share of the spotlight,” said Gary Slaight, President of Standard Radio. “This contest is critical in giving songwriters the recognition they deserve as well as some much needed tools to develop their craft.”

Entry forms are available online, at select music instrument retail stores, and through sponsoring radio stations. Those stations include: Z95.3 of Vancouver, BC; CJAY 92 of Calgary, AB; 100.3 The Bear of Edmonton, AB; Rock 102 FM of Saskatoon, SK; Z99 of Regina, SK; Hot 103 of Winnipeg, MB; Mix 99.9 of Toronto, ON; 106.9 The Bear of Ottawa, ON; Mix 96 of Montreal, PQ; C98 of Saint John, NB; Q104 of Halifax, NS and 97.5 K-Rock of St. John’s, NF.

All entries must be received by 5 p.m. on Dec. 2. The finalists will be announced on Jan. 17, 2006, and the grand prizewinner will be announced at CMW on March 4, 2006. The sponsoring radio stations and online voters will select the finalists. They will receive an all-expenses paid trip to CMW 2006 with a two-night stay at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel. Finalists will also receive a Garrison AG-500-CE acoustic/electric cutaway guitar and a Sennheiser studio/live package that includes an E 865 condenser vocal microphone, stand, cable, HD 280 professional headphones, a private seminar with professional Canadian songwriters and an opportunity to perform at the International Songwriters Festival at CMW 2006. All finalists will be featured on a CMW 2006 Promotional Compilation CD, courtesy of DBS Duplication. The CD will be distributed to the CMW delegates, VIPs and the media.

While the first runner-up will receive $2,500, the grand prizewinner will get $10,000 in cash. He or she will also get 30 hours of mixing and mastering time at Metalworks Studios, a 16-track digital home studio package from AxeMusic.com, a Neumann TLM 127 multi-polar pattern professional studio microphone, Masterwriter computer software and a national radio promotion package from dB Promotions and Publicity Inc.
