Long & McQuade Holds Many Events Musical instrument retailer, Long & McQuade has announced many dates for several events to take place in the GTA. From March 1-31, there will be free career-enhancing seminars, clinics and showcases marketed towards musicians, songwriters, producers and home studio enthusiasts. The first event is on Friday, March 3, 7-9 p.m. in the Waterloo store. Computer Music Production 101 with Warren Cooper will be a clinic that gives basic understanding of the computer-based home studio. Topics include setting up your home studio, choosing the right sound card, mixers, mics and recording and sequencing. On Saturday, March 4, 2-4 p.m. the North York store will see Songwriters in the Round with Dean McTaggart, Suzie Vinnick and Danny Brooks. These award-winning songwriters will give any interactive performance. Date with a Demo with Blair Packham and Andy Kim will be held on Monday, March 6, 7-9 p.m. in the Toronto store. Bring your demos to have them evaluated. Only put one song in DAT, cassette or CD format. On the same day and time, the Mississauga store will see Extreme Drumming with Flo Mounier of Cryptopsy. Flo will demonstrate the speed and technique that has brought Cryptopsy to the top. On Tuesday, March 7, 7-9 p.m. in the Toronto store Mark Williams, International Sales Manager for Presonus will present The World of Digital Recording: From Techniques to the Latest Products. Simple techniques for the beginner to pro will be covered on Presonus’ latest products. Gain insight into making songwriting a career as John Capek presents Songwriting 101 on Wednesday, March 8, 7-9 p.m. at the Scarborough store. On Thursday, March 9, 7-9 p.m. you can learn rhythmic variations, syncopation, funky chord voicings and muting techniques as Donna Grantis presents Funk Guitar. Remember your guitar! On Saturday, March 11, 2-4 p.m. the Mississauga store will see Blues Guitar with Frank Cosentino. Topics will include blues progressions, chord voicings, turnarounds, scale usage and double stops. If you’re looking to build your own studio attend Building the Perfect Home Studio with Mike Vanderlee on Tuesday, March 14, 7-9 p.m. at the Brampton store. This clinic will provide various options in equipment and software and how to hook it up cost effectively. The Oshawa store will see The Art of Miking Live & In The Studio with Tony Crea on Wednesday, March 15, 7-9 p.m. This will provide an overview of different mics and their applications and placement tips. On Thursday, March 16, 7-9 p.m. Creating a Professional Mix on Pro Tools with Graham Brewer of Metalworks will be held at the Toronto store. A profile project will be provided and advanced mixing techniques using Pro Tools will be discussed. GarageBand 2006 in Action with Jean McKen will be held at the North York store on Saturday, March 18, 2-4 p.m. Learn how GarageBand 2006 can help composers create music and how teachers can inspire their students. On Wednesday, March 22, 7-9 p.m. A Moment in Time with Mike Siracusa will discuss the drummer’s role in a band. This clinic will also develop time and musicality for drummers. The North York store will see Introduction to Pro Tools with Mark Capoferri of Metalworks on Thursday, March 23, 7-9 p.m. Here Pro Tools basics and a few advanced tricks will be demonstrated. On Saturday, March 25, 2-4 p.m. Rik Emmett will present The Creative Guitarist as Conscientious Recording Artist at the Mississauga store. This seminar will focus on how ideas develop, such as: how a guitarist turns licks, riffs and chords into melodies; harmonic content with emotional messages into songwriting; how they enter into record production to become a conscientious recording artist. You will learn to develop your own style. Understanding Sampling with Steve Knowles of Korg Canada will be held on Monday, March 27, 7-9 p.m. at the Burlington store. This seminar will show ways to bring samples into your environment. Review sampler terminology, tips on cleaning up start and end points and time slicing. The Mississauga store will see Mixology: From the Bedroom to the Club to the Art of Remixing with Mark Wellein of Erikson Audio on Tuesday, March 28, 7-9 p.m. He will demonstrate the proper set up on the tone arm to scratching to working with the latest software. On Wednesday, March 29, 7-9 p.m. at the Brampton store Starting From Scratch, of Flow 93.5 and Baba Kahn will present Scratch Lab DJ Seminar. This will cover topics like beat mixing, scratching, tricks, business elements of DJ’ing and different types of DJs. Music Composition in the 21st Century with Lyle Crilly of Steinberg will be presented on Thursday, March 30, 7-9 p.m. at the Newfoundland Club, right beside the Cambridge store. This seminar will cover compositional tips and tricks for Cubase users such as audio editing, virtual instruments, MIDI-editing, warping the time line and guitar recording techniques.
