First Toronto Music Expo
On Saturday, Nov. 19 and 20, the first ever Toronto Music Expo (TMX) will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Hall C. TMX is Toronto’s only true music consumer show entitled: “Everything Music Under One Roof.”
Open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days, attendees will be able to see hundreds of exhibitors providing professional services, information, instruments, gear, accessories, sheet music, music aids and enough production and sound equipment to fill a home studio or concert hall. For those who would like to exhibit, fill out an exhibitor application form at the site. Check out up-and-coming artists perform for entertainment and inspiration on three different stages. Admission is only $10. TMX is produced by one of Canada’s leading media companies, Dynamic Publishing and Events Management, which is part of Torstar.
Workshops and seminars with professional industry veterans as speakers will also be available to attendees. The Professional Development Seminars will focus on several aspects and will be offered twice for optimum coverage. Group A will focus on “Music and Technology” and “From Recording to Editing: Pros & Cons of Software & Technique”. The latter seminar will explore industry standards in music software including Cubase, Logic Pro, Sound Forge and WaveLab. Group A will also host “Pro Tools”, “Music & Video: Editing for the Non-Professional” and “Live Sound Workshop”. Group B will host “The Music Biz”, “Contracts”, “Publicity & Promotion”, “A&R – Making the Cut”, “Knowing Your Publishing and Performance Rights” and “The Business of Music Education – The Next Generation”. Finally Group C will host “Musicianship”, “The Modern Singer/Songwriter”, “The Multi-Media Composer”, “The Power Guitar Workshop”, “The Power Drummer Workshop”, “World Rhythm & Percussion Workshop” and “Recording Studio 101”. Seminars are $40 for one, $75 for two, $95 for three and $20 for each additional seminar. GST and admission to the show floor is included in the price for the seminars. The Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) is on 255 Front St., W., Toronto, which is only two blocks from the Union Station.
