2nd Annual MMMIS
In 2005 the first annual Montreal Musician and Musical Instrument Show (MMMIS) drew over 90,000 visitors. In 2006 the show is back again and will be held at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal from July 6-9.
MMMIS ’06 will be held in the Grande-Place in complexe Desjardins, Place des Arts and on the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal’s exterior site. It will be presented in collaboration with General Motors Canada.
The principal mission of the MMMIS is to promote music making within the general public. Last year 50 per cent of visitors said that they were amateur musicians, 18 per cent said they were professionals and 70 per cent said that their visit to the show has given them a yearning to get more into music making.
Over 60 guitar and other instrument manufacturers from five countries will be on hand to add to this experience and over 50 brand name instrument makers will have kiosks featured. There will be many workshops offered and the exterior site will offer many activities to the public. The Rencontre series will feature internationally renowned artists. The MMMIS has created the Blues Camp, where 50 teenagers between 13-17 will have the opportunity to deepen their musical understanding. This camp is free of charge, is seven days long and will culminate with a live show on an exterior stage at the festival.
A complete list of manufacturers and top brands as well as luthiers and instrument makers set to be at the MMMIS is available on the site.
