Long & McQuade Wind Instrument Clinics

Long & McQuade has recently announced several clinics to be held at the Bloor St. location in Toronto, ON (unless otherwise noted) from Saturday, February 4-Saturday, April 15, from 2-4 p.m. Don’t forget your horn! All of the clinics are free, however the recitals are $10 each.

On February 4, Jerry Bergonzi will hold a clinic on making it happen as an improviser on saxophone at St. John’s Lutheran Church. That same day Steve Shires will speak about designing, producing and playing bass instruments such as S.E. Shires Trombones.

Flute player, Susan Hoeppner will teach career development and how to put together a portfolio in the classical solo recording industry. Learn how to approach all aspects of your playing, including tone production on February 11. Paul Brodie will hold an A to Z session to discuss everything related to the saxophone on February 18.

On February 23, from 7-9 p.m., Eddie Daniels will perform and talk about bridging the gap between classical and jazz performance relating to the clarinet. Victoria Chapel will see Paul Edmund-Davies lead a masterclass on flute on March 1, from 1-4 p.m. He will also perform an evening solo recital at 7:30 p.m.

Gain insights into playing and being a good performer from trumpet player, Guy Few on March 4. Ted Waggoner will give the history and future plans of Conn, Bach, King and Selmer on March 11.

Tuba player, Sasha Johnson, will focus on the tuba player’s career on March 18. March 25, Joaquin Valdepenas will lead a masterclass featuring many topics facing young clarinetists. Participants will present their prepared material and he will use them to illustrate concepts and approaches. Seamus Blake will bring his own unique brand of improv and approaches to jazz on the saxophone on April 1.

On April 8, Robert Langevin will hold a flute masterclass from 1-4 p.m. at Victoria Chapel. At 7:30 p.m. he will present a solo recital with Alayne Hall. The final clinic will be on April 15, with Daniel Perantoni. He will present his approaches to preparation, physique and performing on the tuba.
