Ontario Gets $45 Million From Canada Council
Between April 2003 and March 2004 the Canada Council for the Arts awarded $45 million to Canadian artists, to help both emerging and established artists further their careers as musicians.
Canada Council for the Arts gave grants to 624 artists and 660 art organizations in Ontario. The artistic disciplines receiving grants included dance, music, theatre, visual arts, media arts, writing and publishing, and interdisciplinary and performance art. The largest amount, $10.4 million, of funding was given to music, followed by $6.8 million to theatre and $6.5 million to publishing.
A large portion of the funding, 69 per cent, went to Toronto-based artists, and the remainder went to 141 other communities throughout Ontario.
To be eligible for the grants, all applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada. For complete details on how to apply, or to find out application deadlines, visit their Web site at www.canadacouncil.ca/grants/howtoapply.
