Tom Jackson In Toronto December 4th
Canadian Musician magazine is bringing Live Music Producer Tom Jackson to Toronto for a workshop on Sunday, December 4, 2011, bumped back from the previous date of October 29th. The one-time only, one-day seminar will run from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the OISE Auditorium, 252 Bloor St. W. in Toronto on the new date. Jackson’s coaching has helped shape the live shows of artists including Taylor Swift, Jars of Clay, Jordin Sparks, Divine Brown, and countless others. Helping artists “create memorable moments,” Jackson has presented at a number of high-profile music events around the world, including initiatives like CMW, ECMA Week, and more. Get Your Submissions In For The 2012 Festival Circuit
Submission periods for artist applications to play events like NXNE, CMW, and SXSW 2012 are currently open. The 2012 edition of the SXSW Music and Media Conference and Festival is now accepting showcase applications. Taking place March 13-18, 2012 in Austin, TX, the 26th edition of SXSW is an opportunity to perform for well over 16,000 industry representatives, including almost 3,000 media representatives, and the thousands of fans in attendance. To apply, go to www.sxsw.com/music/shows/apply. All applications must be submitted no later than November 4, 2011. Submissions for showcase spots are also being accepted for the 2012 edition of Canadian Music Fest, taking place March 21-25, 2012 at various venues throughout Toronto, ON as part of Canadian Music Week (CMW). The festival is your chance to get in front of over 3,000 domestic and international industry insiders and media reps, A&R reps, music publishers, talent buyers and agents, promoters, and festival directors. www.canadianmusicfest.com. Finally, artist submissions for the 18th annual edition of the NXNE Music and Film Festival, taking place June 11-17, 2012 in Toronto, are now being accepted. Drake Honoured With Allan Slaight Award
Internationally-renowned, Canadian-born superstar Drake, was the recipient of the 2011 Allan Slaight Award. In its second year, the Allan Slaight Award is presented to a young Canadian making a positive impact in the fields of music, film, literature, visual or performing arts, sports, innovation, or philanthropy. The award, accompanied by a $10,000 honourarium, was presented to Drake during Canada’s Walk of Fame Gala on October 1, 2011. The megastar has selected to donate the honourarium to Dixon Hall, a community-based service that aims to create opportunities for people of all ages in low-income neighbourhoods of Toronto. “I am a proud Canadian, and I am grateful to Canada’s Walk of Fame and the Slaight Foundation for this award,” remarks Drake. Zoom H2n Handheld Recorder
Zoom has introduced its H2n handheld recorder, ideal for applications from songwriting and rehearsal through to podcasting, journalism, and more. Boasting a newly-designed user interface, the unit’s five built-in mic capsules provide MS stereo, 90i X/Y stereo, 2-channel, and 4-channel recording modes. It records WAV files up to 24-bit/96 kHz or MP3s up to 320 kbps.
