Toronto’s Buddy Black is an angry folk-inspired hero in the making. While he’s still able to count himself amongst the under-30 demographic, he’s been working on this project since he was 10 years old, going solo before picking up band mates to help carry things along.
Black’s third and latest EP, Witchfinger (The Chillers EP), was released in March 2012 and is a tribute to the 1987 horror film, Chillers. While there’s a ton of energy in Black’s first wave-inspired punk music, his Tom Waits-like rasp and folk tones underline an evident passion in every note he plays. His raspy voice is coupled perfectly with the raw guitar-heavy songs on the EP.
Those questioning Black’s work ethic need look no further than the two videos he shot for Witchfinger after travelling to West Virginia to meet up with Chillers director Daniel Boyd, where they shot two music videos featuring the cast and locations of the film.
