June 2004 MIAC And Yamaha Sponsor Charity Concert Yamaha Canada Music and MIAC have joined forces to present an event to support the Coalition for Music Education in Canada (CMEC). CMEC, a national organization dedicated to promoting and protecting music education in Canadian schools, will receive all proceeds from a concert taking place at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre, in Mississauga, ON, on August 21, 2004. The concert will feature a graduate of the Yamaha Music Education System and renowned Berklee College in Boston, US – Hiromi. Oscar Peterson, a Canadian jazz legend, has mentored Hiromi, who has been described as an “exceptional talent.” The concert will also feature performances by David Braid, Mark Eisenman, Joe Sealy, Mark Kelso, Brandi Disterheft and The Stars of Tomorrow. In addition, the show will commemorate the 75th anniversary of Canada/Japan diplomatic relations, the 50th anniversary of the Yamaha Music Education System, and last but not least the 35th anniversary of Yamaha Canada Music Ltd. “MIAC is very proud to support the Coalition and their efforts to promote music education in Canada. By highlighting the work the Coalition has done to protect music education, we hope industry members will realize the importance of supporting the Coalition and how desperately music education needs their help,” says Ron Larcombe, MIAC’s Chairman and President. Tory Saruya, President of Yamaha Canada Music Ltd., adds, “On the 35th anniversary of opening our Canadian operation, Yamaha Canada Music Ltd. Is honoured to pay tribute to such a legendary Canadian artist and to support a cause that is so critical for Canadian children and the music industry. Through our combined efforts and the constant inspiration from legends like Oscar Peterson and talented new artists like Hiromi, we are certain that the future of music education in Canada is strong.” Following the concert, ticket holders will be invited to an Afterglow Party where there will be opportunities to meet the special performers.
