Campaign Launched To Stop Corporate Music Piracy

On October 24, ole launched its Stop Corporate Music Piracy campaign with a full-page ad in the Ottawa Hill Times. At the same time a companion website www.protectcreativity.ca was unveiled and the message was delivered via posters to all 308 Canadian Members of Parliament.

According to ole, The Copyright Modernization Act – Bill C-11, will fail Canadians because it does nothing to stop the ISPs, search engines, advertisers, websites, and device manufacturers who profit from enabling music piracy. (more…)

Radio Star Re-Launches With A New Name, Accepting Submissions

The Radio Star National Talent Search (formerly the Radio Star National Songwriting Competition) is now underway. Through December 16th, Canada’s emerging new artists can submit their songs at www.radiostar.ca for a chance to win $10,000 in cash plus thousands worth in music equipment, services, and more.

Toronto’s Official Musicians Swap Meet & Guitar Show is taking place Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at 1083 Pape Avenue, Toronto.

The Swap offers a chance for musicians to buy, sell, and trade their musical equipment from vintage guitars to P.A systems. Attendees can register for a vendor table at the cost of $50. To attend the show and receive a free estimate of your instrument or piece of equipment is $5.

SF Marketing Announces The 2011 Pioneer DJ Ambassador Contest

SF Marketing Inc., exclusive distributor of Pioneer DJ products in Canada, has announced the 2011 Pioneer DJ Ambassador Contest.

On October 24, 2011, SF Marketing will launch its search for the next three Pioneer DJ Canadian Ambassadors. Contest entrants must create a video of themselves doing their best sales pitch, in two minutes or less, explaining the key features of any Pioneer DJ mixer or player. These videos, combined with the application form each entrant must submit, will be considered and three ambassadors will be selected from across the country on December 7, 2011.

CMF & Canadian Ad Industry Reach Tentative Agreement

Canadian Federation of Musicians (CFM) has reached terms of an agreement with the Association of Canadian Advertisers (ACA) and the Institute of Communication Agencies (ICA) to renew the Commercial Announcements Recording Contract. This is the industry standard collective agreement governing the production of music and audio tracks for commercials in Canada. Members will vote on the terms of this new agreement in the upcoming weeks. (more…)

Canadian Musician magazine is bringing Live Music Producer Tom Jackson to Toronto for a workshop on Sunday, December 4, 2011, bumped back from the previous date of October 29th. The one-time only, one-day seminar will run from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the OISE Auditorium, 252 Bloor St. W. in Toronto on the new date.

Iconic Canadian Producer Jack Richardson To Be Honoured

Harris Institute will celebrate the life of one of Canada’s most respected record producers with the presentation of the first “Jack Richardson Award” and $1,000 to its top graduating student on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at a lobster Awards Dinner at Captain John’s on Toronto’s waterfront.

Jack Richardson, who passed away at 81 on May 31, 2011, is a Member of the Order Of Canada and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and a recipient of the SOCAN Special Achievement Award. He produced 38 gold and platinum records by The Guess Who, Bob Seger, Alice Cooper, Rough Trade, The Association, Poco, Badfinger, The Irish Rovers, Max Webster, The Boss Brass, David Clayton Thomas, Bobby Curtola, Moxy, The Brecker Brothers, Hagood Hardy and countless others at his Nimbus 9 Studios in Yorkville.
