 Mailing Lists - November 1997

One of the most effective ways of keeping in touch with your audience is with an electronic mailing list. There in no postage or printing to worry about and updates on tour dates, CD releases, your web site etc. can be sent out in an instant.
Promote your newsletter at your website, on all your promotional materials and at live gigs.  If you have just a few names, you can use your regular e-mail software but make sure to use the blind carbon copy (bcc) function so readers arent bothered with all the recipients names. Once you have a larger list, your Internet provider can set up list software such as Listserv or Majordomo which automatically subscribes and unsubscribes recipients and mails the whole list in one shot. If you want more control and features, there are many bulk e-mail programs available at shareware sites such as www.download.com or www.shareware.com. Highly recommended is Group Mail which you can find at http://indigo.ie/~zippy/. For only $29.95 U.S., you can keep multiple lists, eliminate duplicates, create, edit or import messages and enter or import names and e-mail addresses.
Dont forget to include on your list media, agents, promoters or anyone else interested in your music.
