CMW’s Music Cities Summit Returning on May 12

CMW2 smallCanadian Music Week’s 4-day Music Summit will close with the Music Cities Summit on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Sheraton Centre.
 
City planners and music industry leaders will take part in the Music Cities Summit’s international creative-economy conference, “The Mastering Of A Music City.” Speakers from municipal governments and music industries from around the world will include: Elizabeth Cawein, founder of Music Export Memphis; Josh Colle, Toronto city councillor; Chief Howard Miller, president of the New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian Council; and Kate Becker, director of the Office of Film and Music, City of Seattle.

Audiotree & Paquin Entertainment Partner on Launch of Canadian Artist Discovery Platform

Audiotree, a Chicago-based company that records and publishes live music sessions, and Canadian artist agency Paquin Entertainment have teamed up together and announced the launch of Audiotree North, an extension of the American company’s live performance format.

Audiotree says the partnership’s mission celebrates founder Michael Johnston’s vision of prioritizing video, sound and graphic quality  in order to create the best product in support of artists. The official launch of Audiotree North will take place on May 11 during Canadian Music Week at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto with a full line-up of artists, which will be announced at a later date.

The Prism Prize has announced the Top 10 best Canadian music videos of the year, as voted by a jury of more than 120 Canadian music, film, and media arts professionals. After viewing hundreds of music videos, jurors selected the Prism Prize Top 10 based on originality, style, creativity, innovation and effective execution. One of these videos will be awarded the $15,000 Grand Prize at a screening and awards presentation on Sunday, May 13, 2018 at TIFF Bell Lightbox.

The SOCAN Foundation, part of the SOCAN Group of organizations, today announced the launch of the Indigenous Songwriter Award, in partnership with TD Bank Group.

The TD Indigenous Songwriter Award will recognize the musical talent and creativity of the best music created, in any genre, by songwriters and composers of Indigenous descent. The inaugural award will be presented at the Indigenous Music Awards in Winnipeg on May 18, 2018.

Over 80 international delegates from the United States, Canada, Denmark, France, Sweden, Germany, Australia and the United Kingdom will descend upon Halifax, NS for the 30th anniversary celebration of the East Coast Music Awards: Festival and Conference, May 2-6, 2018.

Canadian Music Week (CMW) has announced that AEG North America President Rick Mueller will do a keynote interview at the 2018 Music Summit, with Bob Lefsetz doing the questioning.

Under North American president Rick Mueller, AEG Presents has made headlines and entertained under-served audiences on both coasts with new festivals and revamped venues. Whether it’s a big-ticket one-off like Desert Trip (which grossed $160 million in 2016), or the Panorama Festival on New York City’s Randall’s Island (which this year features the likes of Janet Jackson, The Weeknd and The Killers) or the acquisition of storied concert venues like the Santa Barbara Bowl or the Saratoga Mountain Winery, Mueller’s footprint on the live music experience is deep. In this Lefsetz session, Mueller will talk about how AEG Presents and its many partners has built a bond with concert audiences.

The schedule and tickets are now available for the 2018 edition of Sing! The Toronto Vocal Arts Festival. It will kick off on May 23rd and wrap up on June 3rd, with concerts, vocals workshops, and more taking places at various venues around downtown Toronto.

Among the shows is the SING! Swings Bernstein and More concert, hosted by renowned vocalist Micah Barnes, which celebrates the rich songbook of renowned Broadway, film, symphony and opera composer Leonard Bernstein at 100, plus more great jazz tunes all done with only voices, no instruments. The show will feature the intricately interwoven harmonies of the Ault Sisters – Intricately interwoven harmonies, the tight harmony and vocal flexibility of The Watch, and the vocal instrument sounds of Hampton Avenue.

SoundMachine, a music subscription service for businesses, has partnered with Napster to create a new music subscription designed to provide an “engaging and on-brand music experience” for retailers, restaurants, spas, or other companies. Titled Business Premium powered by Napster, the new service combines SoundMachine’s scheduling and management features with Napster’s music programming technology and catalog. The service is available now in the U.S., Canada, and Spain, and will roll out in additional territories in the coming months.

The 2018 Juno Awards were handed out this weekend in Vancouver. First, on Saturday evening, CBC radio’s Tom Power hosted the 47th Juno Gala Dinner & Awards presented by SOCAN where 36 Junos and four special awards were handed out. Then on Sunday evening CBC Television aired live from Roger’s Arena the two-hour Juno Awards Broadcast where the year’s top awards were handed and fans in the arena and at home enjoyed a number of special performances.

The two-hour televised show opened with a special instrumental rendition of International Achievement Award Winner, Arcade Fire’s “Everything Now,” who also took home Album of the Year for their album Everything Now.
