Nielsen “Week After” Sales & Streaming Numbers for JUNOs Broadcast Performers

Nielsen Music Canada, in its capacity as the official data provider for the JUNO Awards, has released its “week after” insights detailing the consumer reaction to winning artists and those who performed at the show. Held last Sunday, April 2nd at in Ottawa, the awards proved a boon for featured artists.

– Bryan Adams’ “Summer Of ’69” saw downloads of the song increase 115 per cent, on-demand streams go up 11 per cent, and overall song consumption increased 38 per cent.

– Adams also sang “You Belong To Me,” which saw a 46 per cent increase in on-demand streams of the song and overall song consumption was up 660 per cent.

– The Tragically Hip lead singer, Gord Downie’s album, Secret Path, which won Adult Alternative Album of the Year, saw on-demand streams increase 85 per cent.

– The Strumbellas performed the song “Spirits” at the awards and saw digital song sales increase by 179 per cent, on-demand streams increase by 20 per cent, and overall song consumption go up 65 per cent.

– Leonard Cohen posthumously won two awards for his album, You Want It Darker – sales of which were up 105 per cent and on-demand streams up 44 per cent.

– Arkells’ “Drake’s Dad” saw on-demand streaming rise 34 per cent and overall song consumption increased 149 per cent.

– Hall Of Fame Award winner, Sarah McLachlan’s album sales were up 50 per cent, on-demand streams increased 29 per cent, and overall consumption of her music was up 55 per cent.

– Billy Talent’s performance of “Afraid Of Heights” boosted digital track sales to 112 per cent, on-demand streams of the song were also up 12 per cent, and overall song consumption increased 27 per cent.

– July Talk, who performed “Picturing Love” and took home an award for Alternative Album of the Year, saw digital song sales increase 99 per cent, on-demand streams increase by 10 per cent, and overall song consumption went up by 44 per cent.

– Teen star, Shawn Mendes who performed “Mercy” and received the Fan’s Choice Award saw his song sales increase by 25 per cent, the on-demand streams for this song was up three per cent, and overall song consumption was up by 10 per cent.

– Ruth B’s (Breakthrough Artist of the Year winner) performed song “Lost Boy” was up 16 per cent in on-demand streams.

– Alessia Cara‘s performed song “Scars To Your Beautiful” saw digital song sales increase 28 per cent, on-demand streams up three per cent, and overall song consumption up 10 per cent.

– The Tragically Hip’s award-winning album, Man Machine Poem, saw album sales increase 27 per cent, on-demand streams of the album were also up 21 per cent, and overall album consumption saw a 29 per cent lift.

– Dallas Smith, who performed the song “Side Effects,” saw song sales increase 19 per cent, audio on-demand streams of the song also increased by 11 per cent and overall song consumption was up by nine per cent including equivalent tracks.
