National Bank of Canada Gives $1 Million to the National Music Centre

March 14th, 2016

02 StudioBellThe National Music Centre (NMC) has received a $1 million investment from the National Bank of Canada towards NMC’s campaign to construct its new facility Studio Bell.

The investment will be used towards naming a fifth-floor gallery inside Studio Bell. Level five is a floor dedicated to the theme of Celebrating Music and will honour Canadian musicians and industry leaders who have left their mark on Canada and beyond.

The gallery space, named the National Bank Private Banking 1859 Gallery, will showcase NMC’s national and international reach through partnerships with museums, cultural institutions, and private collections. Dedicated to temporary installations and travelling exhibitions, this gallery space will also feature items and objects from NMC’s own 2,000-piece collection, as well as visiting collections from around the world.

“Our investment in the National Music Centre represents our commitment to the communities we serve, and commemorates the arrival in Calgary of National Bank’s Private Banking 1859 and its unequalled delivery of wealth management services,” says Meghan Meger, President, Private Banking 1859—Western Canada at National Bank of Canada. “We are proud to support an organization that uses music to explore and inspire our nation. We look forward to the opportunities that Studio Bell will bring both to Alberta, and also Canada.”

“National Bank’s gift is a reflection of, and investment in, our national mandate,” adds Andrew Mosker, President and CEO of NMC. “The National Bank Private Banking 1859 Gallery will enable NMC to share the depth of our own collections, while also bringing new ideas, stories and artifacts from far and wide through partnerships with our cultural partners.”

Construction on Studio Bell began in early 2013 and the facility will open to the public in the summer of 2016. The project will cost $191 million, and NMC has raised over $130 million to construct the 160,000 square foot cultural space.
