Bob Ezrin Vents About Kanye West

Bob-EzrinWith Kanye West showing up in the media for one reason or another on a seemingly hourly basis lately, it appears Canadian super-producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, etc.) has had enough. He wrote an open letter to Bob Lefsetz’s e-newsletter, “The Lefsetz Letter,” to vent his frustration. It reads:

“Kanye West Is Fixing His Album in Public. You’ll Want to Read the Edits”

Kanye in the NYT? WTF???

Canadian Country Music Week 2016 Songwriters’ Series Applications Being Accepted

Canadian country songwriters have until Friday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. to  apply to perform as part of the Songwriters’ Series at Canadian Country Music Week (CCMW) 2016. This year’s CCMW, presented by the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA), will be held Sept. 8-11 in London, ON.

There are 12 submission-based spots are available as part of the three sessions of the CCMA Songwriters’ Series listed below:

Digital Music News: How To Get All of the Royalties You Never Knew Existed

A 2015 Berklee College of Music report found that anywhere from 20-50% of music payments do not make it to their rightful owners.  The indie publishing powerhouse Kobalt calculated that there are “over 900,000 distinct royalty payments for artists and songwriters.”  What are these royalties?  Where do they come from?  And most importantly, how do you get them?

I’m not gonna lie, it’s complicated, but I’m going to attempt to lay all of this out as simply as possible.  In plain English.  I’m here for you.  We’ll get through this together.  Bookmark this page and take a deep breath.

Will SoundCloud’s Finances Force It To Shut Down?

SoundCloudAlan Cross points us to this article from FactMag stating the SoundCloud, one of the most popular online services for music creators, may be in a lot of financial trouble:

A report casts “significant doubt on the company’s ability to continue as a going concern.”

SoundCloud struck a landmark deal with Universal Music Group last month, but its latest financial filings suggest the company is in dire financial straits.

Musicians are invited to apply now for the 2016 edition of Unsigned Only, a worldwide music competition produced by the same people that produce the International Songwriting Competition (ISC). Unsigned Only is designed for solo artists, bands, and singers who are not signed to a major label record company or any of its affiliates, subsidiaries, or imprints. It’s a music competition with the stated goal of finding an outstanding, talented performer that needs to be discovered.

The Grand Prize winner will be awarded $20,000 USD in cash (plus additional prizes, to a total value of more than $100,000 USD) and one-on-one mentoring by an elite group of record company executives. First Place winners in each category will receive $1,000 USD in addition to other prizes. Second Place winners will also receive prizes. Winners for the competition will be announced in early September 2016.
