Submissions open for SOCAN Song House at ECMW 2015

Submissions are now open for the first ever SOCAN Song House at Eastlink East Coast Music Week (ECMW) 2015, which is scheduled for April 8 and 9, 2015 in St. John’s, NL.

Ralph Murphy (songwriter, producer, and author of Murphy’s Law of Songwriting) and Chad Richardson (songwriter and General Manager of SOCAN Los Angeles) will lead the two-day interactive workshop. Twelve songwriter participants will be selected to gain valuable insight into the craft of writing a hit song. This initiative aligns with SOCAN’s new A&R strategy to help members improve their song writing and reach new heights in their careers.

FACTOR’s Annual Review Approaching – Do You Need to Update Your Profile?

The following notice and advice is provided by FACTOR.

It’s time for FACTOR’s Annual Review

On Feb. 27, 2015 we will re-assess all Artist Profile and Applicant Profiles in the system. Both Artist and Company Ratings may go up or down at this time. Your current rating will remain in place until March 31 2015. New Ratings received during the Annual Review take effect on April 1, 2015.

CMW Unveils Impressive List of 2015 Headliners

CMW2015 HeadlinersCanadian Music Week (CMW) has released a pretty impressive list of headlining artists for the 2015 edition of the festival/showcase, which will be taking place in downtown Toronto from May 1-10. It features some of the top Canadian artists, old and new, including, Alvvays, Billy Talent, Kiesza, Magic!, LIGHTS, Daniel Lanois, and Ron Sexsmith. As well, there are a number of major international acts coming through town, including The Jesus & Mary Chain, ex-Oasis mainman Noel Gallagher,  and Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts.

This year will once again feature The Concert Lottery. Offering CMW wristband holders the chance to guarantee a spot at some of the larger shows during the festival – and sometimes the only way in to a sold out show – and the opportunity to optimize their time during the festival. Now spanning 10 days CMW will showcase over 1000 bands at more than 60 live music venues in downtown Toronto.

SOCAN Presents Performing Rights Workshop in Edmonton

MakeMusic@epl_2015_Poster_11x17_v1Aspiring and professional songwriters and musicians are invited to attend SOCAN’s Performing Rights Workshop to be held this Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015 at the Edmonton Public Library (EPL).

The workshop is part of the EPL’s “Make Music at EPL” series, and is presented by Terry O’Brien, Education and Outreach Manager for SOCAN, West Coast Division. The workshop is free to attend, and no registration is required.

Submissions Open for 2015 Breakout West & Western Canadian Music Awards

BOW_logoArtist submissions are now being accepted for the Breakout West 2015 festival, conference, and showcase, as well as the 2015 Western Canadian Music Awards. Breakout West 2015 will be taking place in Victoria, BC from Sept. 17-20.

The Breakout West organizers warn to those interested to make sure to read all guidelines prior to submitting. Any submissions that are not within the indicated guidelines will be disqualified without refunds.

Music Nova Scotia Accepting Submissions for CMW Showcase

The Music Nova Scotia Showcase Stage during Canadian Music Week will take place at the Rivoli in downtown Toronto, ON, on Saturday, May 9th. This showcase stage provides Nova Scotian artists the opportunity to perform for a target audience of influential industry professionals attending Canadian Music Week, including local, national, and international talent buyers, managers, and media. The Music Nova Scotia Showcase Stage is an official partnered stage of CMW.

The call for submissions is now open and will close on Monday, February 2 at 5:00pm (AST).
