Artist Submission Deadlines Approaching for POP Montreal & Halifax Pop Explosion 2017

POP MontrealThe final artist submission deadline for the 2017 edition of POP Montreal is May 13, while the Halifax Pop Explosion’s artist deadline is May 15.

POP Montreal has 85 slots reserved for Sonicbids artists and those selected artists will be compensated between $100-500. The submission cost is $30 USD.

Honey Jam 2017 Auditions set for June 3 in Toronto

Honey Jam smallAuditions for the 2017 Honey Jam Showcase will be held on Saturday, June 3 at Revival in Toronto at 2 p.m. As always, Honey Jam auditions are open to all female artists ages 14 to 25 in any genre. The final Honey Jam showcase will be held Aug. 24, 2017 in Toronto.

Admission for the auditions, including artists and spectators, is $10. Artists are encouraged to arrive at least one hour early to register as there are a limited number of spots. Artists outside of Ontario may submit their audition online here: www.honeyjam.com/ent/form.

Globe & Mail: Vancouver-based metal band denied entry to U.S. for SXSW festival

03 BorderThe Globe & Mail today published an excellent article with Vancouver-based band Massive Scar Era, which was denied entry to the United States when trying to cross the border to play a showcase at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, TX. This story follows other recent reports of musicians, such as Italy’s Soviet Soviet, who have been denied entry, and even detained, at the U.S. border when entering the country to play shows.

According immigration lawyer Brian Taylor Goldstein when speaking with FYI Music News, “Artists entering with B- 1/B-2 visas or through the Visa Waiver Program (ESTA) are being pulled aside the moment they say that they are ‘entertainers,’ ‘performers,’ or ‘artists.'”
