Final ‘Steve’s Supports Country’ Day Happening Saturday

Steve’s Music Toronto alongside Alessia pictures at Steve's music country day 016with their Co-Country sponsor, Boots & Bourbon Saloon teamed up this past summer to show support for upcoming Canadian country artists and to gain exposure to the every growing country music scene in Toronto and surrounding areas through the Steve’s Supports Country Campaign. The campaign consisted of live performances, an on-air Live Broadcast interview with CIUT 89.5 and a unique way for up and coming artists to showcase their talent in the Steve’s Country Corner on site in the Toronto store.

This Saturday, Oct. 17 at Steve’s Music on 415 Queen St. W. between 2 and 4 p.m. in the Steve’s Country Corner there will be performances by country artist Elyse Saunders as well as official spokesperson and country artist Alessia Cohle and country music veteran Don Graham. They will exchange some stories, songs and music with the country fan public. All performance & interviews run 30 minutes each.

Where do the Federal Parties Stand on Arts & Culture?

leadersFYI Music News has compiled this excellent summary of the Canadian federal political parties’ platforms with regards to supporting arts and culture.

The Liberal Party has released its cultural platform that is ambitious to say the least.

Investments include doubling the budget for the Canada Council for the Arts to $360 million each year; restoring the PromArt and Trade Routes cultural export trade programs (cut by the Conservatives) to the tune of $25 million a year; stabilizing the CBC/Radio Canada with $525 million investment over four years; bolstering cultural infrastructure to the tune of $6 billion over 4 years, and almost $20 billion over 10 years. It is also the only party to have completed a questionnaire put to the parties by the Canadian Coalition for the Arts, and promising to review both the Broadcasting Act as well as completing the mandated review of the 2012 Copyright Act in the short-term.

CIMA Offering Discounted Registration & Other Opportunities At World Music Expo 2015

The expanded Canada-Québec booth will host a strong cross-section of Canadian buyers and sellers (including some of Canada’s top festivals, record labels, managers, promoters and artists from the world music arena).

Canadian Musician’s Andrew King to Teach ‘How to Write an Effective Artist Bio’ in Winnipeg

DIY SeriesCanadian Musician editor Andrew King will be the featured speaker at a Music Manitoba workshop entitled “How to Write an Effective Artist Bio.” This workshop will cover how to effectively write a bio in a way that will make critics, bookers, media, and bloggers want to find out more while avoiding the common clichés.

The workshop is part of Music Manitoba’s DIY Series and will take place Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 376 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB.

The MusicWorks DIY Series offers developing artists and industry, as well as veterans looking to update their skills, the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the music business. The series starts with the music business fundamentals that everyone needs to master – bio writing, radio play, mastering social media, touring, and understanding copyright — and ends with planning a release, showing how each of these pieces fit together to create a cohesive strategy.
