A major tangent of the Canadian music industry (different from the Canadian record industry) is the musical instrument industry in the country. You know, it's the Fenders, Gibsons, and Paul Reed Smiths; the Sennheisers and Shures; the Korgs, Rolands, and Yamahas - the industry that makes, distributes, and sells the gear you use and abuse while creating and performing your music. If you've ever been interested in penetrating that side of the music industry, then you should be aware of the annual MIAC show - the Canadian MI industry's annual showcase of the latest and greatest in technology and services. Now, the show's not open to the "public," but professional musicians, music educators, retail employees, or endorsing artists can gain access. Once in, you'll be off networking and absorbing - much like our friend Amanda from Red Deer College. Keep reading...
"As alumni of Red Deer College’s Music Program, and someone
who is trying to break into the music industry, MIAC has been an incredible
experience," she says. "I have attended the MIAC show twice; I have met some wonderful
people, seen amazing products and have been giving the chance to see how this
fast paced industry works. The entire experience for me has been incredible; it
really has helped me realize what I want to do with my career. This is the best
place for me to network and make my way into the industry. I am an extremely
lucky alumnus who has had the opportunity to attend the show."
