Applications Now Accepted for Inaugural Project Wild Country Artist Development Program

Good For Grapes winning the Peak Performance Project

Country artists in Alberta can now submit applications for the inaugural Project WILD professional development program, which is designed to educate, promote, develop, and launch the careers of some of up-and-coming country and roots artists from Alberta. Project WILD has been held previous under the Peak Performance Project Alberta banner. The deadline for applications is May 4, 2016.  Top 12 artists will be awarded a $5,000 Development award and will all get to participate in an intense music and  industry bootcamp where, organizers say, “they will be pushed to the very limit of what they can achieve as artists.”

Casino Nova Scotia announced today that it will select an Artist in Residence for the third year in a row.  The $20,000 program will provide a local emerging musician or group with financial and professional support through Casino Nova Scotia and partners Music Nova Scotia as well as opportunities to develop their career through performance opportunities.

When it comes to personal finances, some artists are very creative. For instance, an artist once told me that to record a video for her song, she rented out her couch and worked 12-hour shifts for few months to save enough to make the video. Mediabase Now Releasing Weekly Shazam Chart in Canada

shazam-4-0-14-0-1screenshot-1Mediabase, a music industry subscription service that monitors radio airplay in the U.S. and Canada, and song-identification app Shazam have announced a partnership that will see Shazam release a weekly chart of the top “Shazam-ed” songs in the U.S. and Canada and other data on the Mediabase site every Monday. It is the first time such data is being made available in either country.

The Canadian weekly Shazam chart will include the top 30 songs from 10 Canadian markets.

Mediabase President & CEO Philippe Generali said, “We are excited to be able to provide Shazam data on a weekly basis for our radio and music industry clients. This has been one of the most requested features our subscribers have been asking for and we’re elated to be able to deliver this data is an accessible and timely manner.”

True North is stretching its wings again – this time into the world of fine art.

Actually, musician-created art, to be exact: On Good Friday, label proprietors Geoff and Brooke Kulawick officially opened the doors of the True North Gallery – The Music Gallery of Fine Art, displaying over 100 originals and rarities from the likes of Miles Davis, Tony Bennett, Joni Mitchell, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Joseph Arthur, Patti Smith, Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, Beatles’ Paul McCartney, John Lennon and Ringo Starr, Andy Warhol and such local artisans as Murray McLauchlan, Kurt Swinghammer, Martin Tielli, Mendelson Joe, Marc Jordan and many, many others.
