Sony Music Sweden Develops App to Make Streaming Earnings More Transparent

Sony Music in Sweden has developed an app which the major says will fix transparent accounting issues faced by artists in the streaming age.

Former Spotify exec Michelle Kadir led development of the platform, which shows acts their daily royalty earnings – including information pertaining to their label advance.

In addition, the app pulls together other key information for Sony Music Sweden artists, including streaming volume across all platforms, plus airplay data and profiles by age/gender/location of their listeners.


Few Days Left to Apply for Red Bull Music Academy in Montreal

The application form can be downloaded from the Academy website, and must be mailed in by March 7, along with a CD of recorded material by each applicant. The Red Bull Music Academy jury will then select a group of participants from the submitted applications.

Band submissions for NXNE 2016 are now open until April 14, 2016. For the first time, NXNE is making the submission process free for all artists. NXNE will not charge any submission fee and it is possible to use the Sonicbids band submission service free of charge as well. Sonicbids is inviting people to sign up for free for 30 days. If a band or musicians decide to stay with the service, they will be charged going forward but there is no obligation when they sign up.

Earlier this month, the British Columbia government unveiled a new $15 million music fund to support the local music industry. The fund matches a similar Ontario initiative that has doled out nearly $30 million over the past two years with a commitment from Premier Kathleen Wynne to make the Ontario Music Fund a permanent program to support the industry.

Showcase Submissions Open for Contact East 2016

Contact EastThe Atlantic Presenters Association (APA) is now accepting submissions for Contact East 2016, which takes place from Sept. 22 – 25 Saint John, NB. The deadline to apply is Thursday, March 31, 2016.

APA is accepting applications through the I Want to Showcase (IWTS) platform; a multi-conference registration site allowing artists to apply to several Contact events across North America.

Since 1975, Contact East, performing arts booking conference for Atlantic Canada, has brought together performing arts presenters and in-demand, tour ready artists to showcase popular and classical music, dance, theatre, and youth-oriented programming. Past showcasing artists include Matt Andersen, Barney Bentall, Dufflebag Theatre, Maria Osende Flamenco, and David Myles.


Bob Ezrin Vents About Kanye West

Bob-EzrinWith Kanye West showing up in the media for one reason or another on a seemingly hourly basis lately, it appears Canadian super-producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, etc.) has had enough. He wrote an open letter to Bob Lefsetz’s e-newsletter, “The Lefsetz Letter,” to vent his frustration. It reads:

Canadian Country Music Week 2016 Songwriters’ Series Applications Being Accepted

Canadian country songwriters have until Friday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. to  apply to perform as part of the Songwriters’ Series at Canadian Country Music Week (CCMW) 2016. This year’s CCMW, presented by the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA), will be held Sept. 8-11 in London, ON.

There are 12 submission-based spots are available as part of the three sessions of the CCMA Songwriters’ Series listed below:
