Just Bidin’ My Time

Music PEI Week 2012 wrapped up at the end of January, and what an event it was. One of the reported highlights (which I actually didn’t get to experience personally) was Just Bidin’ My Time: A Tribute to Gene MacLellan. For those who don’t know, Gene is the late PEI-born writer behind true Canadian staples like “Snowbird” and “Put Your Hand In The Hand,” among so many others.

The show was filmed from Zion Presbyterian Church in Charlottetown and featured performances by Gene’s daughter Catherine (currently a True North artist), Ron Hynes, Lennie Gallant, and other east coasters paying tribute to  true artist and innovator.

CBC Radio 2 will be airing the broadcast on February 29th at 7 pm. I urge you to join me in listening…

The Next Big Thing In Essential Festival Gear?

I get a ton of press releases sent to me everyday. The majority announce the latest musical instrument gear, industry initiatives, contests, events ect… Every now and then, however, I’ll receive a release that will bring my finger to my head and initiate a scratching motion. How to Preserve Your Sense of Sound

House Research Institute, a non-profit dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with hearing loss and related disorders, has outlined five ways musicians and music fans can preserve their hearing.

1) Know thyself: have your hearing tested.

Often, hearing loss issues are initially detected by family and friends rather than the person experiencing it. “When a person frequently has trouble understanding conversations in places where there is significant background noise, such as at parties, crowded restaurants and clubs, it might be a good time for a hearing test and an ear examination,” observes John W.
