I came across a blog post by Mike (I think…) of F***ed Up about the band’s experiences at SXSW over the last few years. It’s an interesting read, regardless of whether or not you agree with all of his points.
The band has certainly drawn a nice balance between creating uncompromising music and still enjoying a respectable degree of success. In fact, last year’s The Chemistry of Common Life was one of the 10 best Canadian records of 2009 according to this humble blogger, and actually named the best Canadian release by the reputable folks on the Polaris Music Prize jury. A benefit concert for ArtsCan Circle is being hosted on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fox & Fiddle event centre in Newmarket, ON. The night’s headliner is a good friend (and soon-to-be-contributor) to CM, Mr. Wendell Ferguson. Let me tell you first-hand – he can play.

We just posted a video interview with Nova Scotian songstress Meaghan Smith, as well as a clip of Michael Kaeshammer (who you can find in the current issue of CM as part of the Keyboard feature) performing "Lovelight" from the Glenn Gould Studio.
Toronto’s own Dinosaur Bones are set to rock CMW with their brand of spastic alt.-pop. Currently celebrating their two-year anniversary as a band, they recently dropped "Royalty"/"Ice Hotels" 7" and are ready to make a splash at this year’s festival. Vocalist and guitarist Ben Fox took some time out to answer a few questions for CM – both quirky and helpful to their fellow up-and-comers…
