WILD 953 and Alberta Music have launched this year’s Project WILD, a professional development program designed to educate, promote, develop, and launch the careers of some of Alberta’s up and coming country and roots artists. The Globe & Mail today published an excellent article with Vancouver-based band Massive Scar Era, which was denied entry to the United States when trying to cross the border to play a showcase at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, TX. This story follows other recent reports of musicians, such as Italy’s Soviet Soviet, who have been denied entry, and even detained, at the U.S. border when entering the country to play shows.
According immigration lawyer Brian Taylor Goldstein when speaking with FYI Music News, “Artists entering with B- 1/B-2 visas or through the Visa Waiver Program (ESTA) are being pulled aside the moment they say that they are ‘entertainers,’ ‘performers,’ or ‘artists.'”
Canada’s Walk of Fame announces the return of its Emerging Artist Music Mentorship Program, supported by RBC, which supports aspiring Canadian musical artists. Valued at more than $100,000, this program provides musicians the tools needed to take their careers to the next level including private studio time at the prestigious Metalworks Studios; introductions to renowned artists; access to music industry influencers; exposure to audiences and media; as well as artist development and funding.
Artists selected to perform at M for Montreal will the chance to play in front of more than 200 music industry professionals from more than 20 countries. They will also have the chance to meet delegates in order to generate career opportunities.
