West coast folk rockers Lion Bear Fox have been described as a “musical force of nature,” and the songs from their upcoming self-titled LP certainly support that case. The record drops Friday, Feb. 17th, but we’re bringing you an early listen in this exclusive #CMPremiere.

Since the release of their breakthrough EP, We’d Be Good Men, in 2013, the members of Lion Bear Fox – Christopher Arruda, Cory Woodward, and Ryan McMahon – have seen their stock rise with performances at events like CMW and Contact East and billings alongside the likes of Kim Mitchell, Tom Wilson, Elliot Brood, and Good for Grapes.

In 2016, Lion Bear Fox further cemented their growing status as a band to watch and with the help of friend and producer Nygel Asselin (Half Moon Run), the trio spent 10 days in the Vancouver Island wilderness crafting “the record of their lives” – a collection of songs steeped in character and full of warmth.

One part folk, one part rock, with a pinch of gospel and a dash of growl, their self-titled LP is a testament to the trio’s strength as songwriters.  Lush acoustic guitars are bookended by buzzing electrics and screaming organs, anchored by rich percussion and three voices in thrilling harmony; it’s a sound that harkens back to an era when the song was paramount.

“Our passion for creating albums is, in part, to capture a timeless artifact that represents a specific period in our lives,” says the group. “An artifact that celebrates both triumphs and tribulations. Life, the ever-evolving roller coaster of emotional experiences that it can be, has taught us that what brings people together is sharing our vulnerabilities.”

Lion Bear Fox is three men telling their truths together through art they collectively believe in. “So when people ask us how this album sounds, we’ve taken to saying, ‘It sounds like truth.'” And it does. The passion and purity are immediately apparent with “The Battle of Me” and the authenticity doesn’t dip over the course of the following eight cuts.

“With the way that much of the world looks and probably feels right now, this album is something that shines a little light through the dark chaos of it all, and hopefully brings more than just temporary joy to the people willing to listen.”

Stream the full collection right here in this exclusive #CMPremiere, and catch the trio when they hit your town for a truly powerful musical experience.
