Artists’ Legal Advice Services (ALAS) is celebrating 30 years of providing free legal advice to artists of all disciplines with an anniversary celebration on Sept. 21, 2016 from 7-10:30 pm at Hugh’s Room in Toronto. The event will feature performances by Craig Cardiff, Danny Marks, and Countermeasure plus several guest speakers. MCs David Basskin of Jazz FM’s Stolen Moments and singer-songwriter Diem La Fortune will host.

ALAS provides free summary legal advice to artists living in Ontario. For three decades, ALAS has been helping artists including actors, musicians, dancers, writers, and filmmakers address their legal challenges, including issues relating to contracts, defamation, copyright, trademarks, royalties, and other payments and income streams.

ALAS is operated by Artists and Lawyers for the Advancement of Creativity (ALAC), a federal not-for-profit corporation whose volunteers consist of lawyers knowledgeable in artist and entertainment law and law students from the University of Toronto.
