SOCAN contestFrom SOCAN:

SOCAN, APEM (the Professional Music Publishers’ Association), and SACEF (Société pour l’avancement de la chanson d’expression française), through its Ma première Place des Arts (MPPDA) contest, are presenting a new opportunity for French Canadian songwriters.

Following an enthusiastic reception from publisher members, SOCAN now invites its songwriting community to help build a pool of original songs (meaning a song that was created less than three years ago, entirely in French, and has never been recorded, sung or commercialized by anyone) that will be pitched to the 18 singing contestants of the 2017 edition.

The 20 songs will be selected by a panel of industry professionals and experts, and will then be presented to the contestants – who’ll have the opportunity to choose one.

Songwriters can submit demos (maximum four minutes long) via a private Soundcloud link, Wetransfer or DropBox before Sept. 30, 2016, at 5:00 p.m., by e-mailing it They’ll then receive a form to complete and return.

For over 22 years, SACEF has supported songwriters, composers and singers of Francophone music, notably through it’s Ma Première Place des Arts contest. It was the MPPDA that launched the careers of famous artists such as Corneille, Ima, Lynda Thalie, Philippe Brach, Peter, Moran, Klô Plegag, Alexandre Désilets and many more.

The original song chosen by the winner of the contest will in turn win A $1,000 cash prize, to be split evenly between the singer ($500) and the songwriter(s) ($500).
