The Nimbus School of Recording & Media has launched the fourth annual Nimbus Mix Contest, which features tracks from Universal Music Canada recording artists Lights, Head of the Herd, and Dear Rouge.

The Mix Contest has two categories: one for high school students and one for graduates or 19+. Competitors in both categories will have the opportunity to create their own mix (or remix) for a chance to win a $25,000 scholarship to attend Nimbus School of Recording & Media in Vancouver, BC.

“The Mix Contest has shown us how inventive, brave, and exciting the next generation of Canadian music talent can be,” said Nimbus co-founder GGGarth Richardson. “We can’t wait to hear what Canada has to show us this year.”

The mixes will be judged by Nimbus co-founders Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, KISS) and GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Rise Against, Biffy Clyro), and Shawn Marino, VP of Universal Music Publishing Group Canada.

“Over the last three years, we have heard some high quality, creative submissions from Canadians of all ages,” says Ezrin. “Last year, one of our winners was just 15 years old! We look forward to the Mix Contest each year and are excited to discover even more talented, aspiring producers, mixers and engineers in 2016.”

The prizes in each category are as follows:

  • First Place: a $25,000 scholarship
  • Second Place: a $10,000 scholarship
  • Third Place: a $5,000 scholarship
  • Popular Vote: $10,000 scholarship

“The Nimbus Mix Contest is a great opportunity for Canadians to try mixing professional quality recordings and to show off their skills to industry leaders.” says Shawn Marino, Vice President of Universal Music Publishing Group Canada. “Universal is pleased to be part of this exciting initiative for Canadian talent.”

Nimbus School of Recording & Media is Canada’s elite music and media school offering small class sizes, mentorship from industry experts and hands-on training in real world scenarios. Courses include: audio engineering, music production, video production, post & game audio, live sound, hip hop production, and the music business.

Stems will be available for download on Feb. 1, 2016.

Mixes can be uploaded for public voting until the contest deadline: March 4, 2016. Winners will be announced on or before April 4, 2016.
