Submissions Open for 2016 Piano Hero Contest

Tuesday, January 19th, 2016

PianosCBC Music and ICI Musique are accepting submissions for the 2016 Piano Hero contest, which is open to classical pianists of all ages and skill levels. The winner will be named “Canada’s favourite amateur classical pianist” and will take home a Steinway-designed Boston professional upright piano worth $15,000, courtesy of Steinway Piano Gallery of Canada. As well, the grand price includes a trip for two to Montreal to make a music video from April 21-24, 2016, VIP tickets to a concert by l’Orchestre Métropolitain and give a pre-concert solo performance, a private lesson with David Jalbert, and more.

To enter, contestants must submit a video of themselves performing a piece of classical music (a piece in the public domain) by Jan. 21, 2016. A public vote will be held to determine the 10 finalists and a jury comprised of Angela Cheng, Jan Lisiecki, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin will choose the winner.

For those looking for a piano and a classy spot to shoot their video, Steinway Piano Gallery of Canada is opening its doors to contestants to use their showroom for videos. To find a location, go here.
