HHB Communications Canada has organized an event for next Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Revolution Recording in Toronto that will see Royer Labs co-founder/owner John Jennings and Mojave Audio President Dusty Wakeman offer an in-depth look at how ribbons and condensers work and what they do. There will be an ample assortment of sound samples, mic comparisons and recorded tracks from well-known artists.

John Jennings, also a co-founder of Mojave Audio, has worked with David Royer since 1996. Their early discussions about ribbon microphones led to the opening of Royer Labs in 1998, where Royer’s unique modern ribbon microphone designs led to the renewed popularity of ribbon mics in mainstream recording. Jennings serves as Royer’s VP of Sales and Marketing. His Ribbons-101 class, distilled from years of discussions with David Royer and hundreds of studio sessions (on both sides of the glass), explains why ribbons sound so natural, how ribbons do what they do, and the unique qualifications of ribbon microphones in digital recording.

Mojave Audio President Dusty Wakeman

From HHB Canada:

In his 35 years in the music business, Dusty Wakeman has worn many hats – producer, engineer, musician, and owner/manager of Los Angeles-based Mad Dog Studios. His work with Dwight Yoakam, Lucinda Williams, Roy Orbison, Michelle Shocked, Buck Owens, and many other artists has helped generate a number of multi-platinum and Grammy-winning records. Looking for a ‘lifestyle change’ after 25 years of constant engineering, producing records, and touring, Dusty came across the prototype for the MA-200. His enthusiasm for the new brand led to Dusty joining Mojave Audio in September of 2005. His in-depth knowledge of recording, understanding of the importance of choosing the right microphone for the job, and ability to share his experience make Dusty’s seminars and recording sessions extremely informative events. Dusty serves as President of Mojave Audio.

This event will involve a live recording session with Producer Brian Moncarz and the Rumba Trio “Che’s Lounge”

Based out of Rattlebox North Studios in Toronto, producer/mixer Brian Moncarz lives to record top rock bands including Circa Survive (Atlantic), which landed a billboard modern rock/alternative #1 hit, Neverending White Lights featuring Hot Hot Heat (MapleMusic), Bleeker Ridge (Universal) Moneen (Dine Alone/Vagrant), The Reason (Warner/Anthem), The Jimmy Bowskill Band (Ruf) and The Junction (Universal). Moncarz is most proud of his association with legendary producer Bob Ezrin and Grammy-winning producer David Bottrill. Through years of working side-by-side with both masters, Moncarz has definitely honed his craft: making great records.

Che’s Lounge is a Rumba Trio comprised of three of Canada’s top Latin percussionists; Luis Orbegoso, Mario Allende, and Adam Hay.

This event is taking place October 28th, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Revolution Recording, 36 Laing St, Toronto, ON M4L 2N2
