CM @ SXSW – Canadian BlastTuesday, April 2nd, 2013
More from CM’s SXSW correspondent, Jamie-Leigh Cuthbertson.
For artists and music industry professionals hailing from our home and native land, the Canadian Blast quickly becomes another source of Canadian pride during their visit to Austin for SXSW.
Presented by the Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA), the Canadian Blast website provides a platform to showcase tastemakers in Canadian music and offers business contacts to allow for international music professionals to foster relationships with Canadian musicians and artists. Its extensive repository of information also attracts music fans looking to quench their thirst for information on Canadian artists and the Canadian industry. Check the site at www.canadianblast.com.
Knowing that exposure at SXSW can forge international recognition and partnerships, Canadian Blast offers some key services for artists and industry professionals attending the festival. Canadian Blast includes international exposure, business development, media outreach, marketing assistance, a trade show exposure at Canada Stand, and a residency for select artists at Canada House in the middle of all the action on 6th Street. The goal is to showcase great Canadian talent to international media, thought leaders, and taste makers with minimized risk and cost for newcomers to the festival.
Canadians headed south for SXSW can expect to see a high-profile presence for Canadian musicians thanks to the hard work and reputations of the Canadian Blast and CIMA brands. They can also count on knocking back a few caesars at Canada House among friends who all know that a Bloody Mary just. isn’t. the. same. This year’s Canada House was stationed at Friends which, in addition to serving as a nod to Canada’s friendly reputation, offered the perfect venue for networking and showcasing talent.
Canadian Blast kicked things off at SXSW with the annual Canadian Blast Showcase & BBQ at Brush Square to feature Canada’s hottest artists. During the festival, Canadian Blast representatives could be found facilitating showcases at Canada House and networking, promo item distribution, and meetings at Canada Stand in the Convention Centre.
Thanks to the dedication of a few Canucks, Canadian musicians left quite the mark on the ears and eyes of thousands of attendees at SXSW.
