CM @ SXSW – Canadian BBQ Sets Stage For Canadian Delegates

Thursday, March 28th, 2013

The Sheepdogs

As Canadian music has become even more of a force in the global music scene, the Canadian Blast BBQ at SXSW has become a must-attend event for international delegates. Here, people can meet with Canadian delegates and bands and get a first-hand glimpse at some of the country’s most prominent and up and coming acts. Because it’s one of the festival’s first music-related events, held on the Wednesday afternoon when music delegates first begin to arrive, the event is well attended and drives Canadian attendance in the early days of the festival.

For the past eight years, the Canadian Blast BBQ has provided the opportunity for record labels, management companies, and other international delegates to meet with Canadian labels and bands in a really laid back atmosphere over good food and even better Canadian music. Bands and labels are able to spread the word about their showcases later in the week, set meetings with international delegates, and really get an idea of who is doing what at the festival.

Poor Young Things

The event, organized by Canadian Blast and backed by CIMA is really the kickoff for all of the Canadian industry events and showcases that take place during SXSW. With distinctly Canadian hospitality, some of Canada’s biggest acts including Hannah Georgas, Paper Lions, Rah Rah, Daniel Romano, Serena Ryder, and Hey Ocean! charmed the ears of all attendees at Brush Park in downtown Austin.
