Bonjours de la Festival d’eteSaturday, July 16th, 2011
Last night was my first in Quebec City in years – and what a beautiful one it was. I’m here for Festival d’ete, the annual 11-day myriad of music from artists like Elton John, John Fogerty, The Black Keys, Simple Plan, Ben Harper, Karkwa, Shad, and the almighty Metallica (well, the once almighty Metallica, depending on who you ask).
I’m staying at the Hilton Quebec, overlooking the St. Lawrence, old Quebec, and the Plains of Abraham. Unbelievably gorgeous. Last night, I caught Shad and (some of) Buck 65 at l’Imperial de Quebec before heading down into Old Montreal at the Loto-Quebec stage to see Manu Dibango, a cool international act from Cameroon and France that played a funky, African-based kind of jazz. It was unreal.
Today is the big day – I’m on my way now to catch Karim Ouellet and hopefully enjoy some lunch (poutine, anyone?) before making my way over to the main stage for some press. Metallica is tonight – expect updates tomorrow, including a nice photo album. Cheers!
